A Fire of Suspicious Origin Damages Northeast Corner of Church
No one was in the building at the time of the fire on May 19, 2010. No one
was injured. Rev. Dr. Harper's office was heavily damaged. A temporary minister's
office on the stage in Warren Hall will be built.
As details of the restoration works emerge, we intend to post them here so that the community will be informed.
Update June 10, 2010: The repair and restoration work due to the fire is ongoing. In the next couple of days, the debris will be taken away and a POD and dumpster will be put on the property. Items that can be saved from the fire-damaged areas will be cleaned and put into the POD and what cannot be cleaned will go into the dumpster.
Kristen's temporary office will soon be constructed on the stage and we are meeting with the contractors regarding bids for the repair and restoration of the building.
Update July 29, 2010 The temporary office for Kristen has been in place for over a month. It looks perfectly well-suited in Warren Hall. The committee has been busy meeting with contractors ("to restore the building to its condition prior to the fire") and fielding questions from them as well as from interested members. The group has received three (3) appropriate reconstruction bids. A recommendation with reasoning will go before the Prudential Committee on August 19. All members are welcome to attend.
The core committee working toward the return of our church building to a non-damaged state includes: Susan Truitt, Prudential Committee Chair; Elaine Brennan, Building Committee Chair; Jo Ann Kelley, Buiding Committee member and long-time church member; Dick Negus, Building Committee member and professional insurance adjustor; Kristen Harper, Minister; Todd Hermann, Treasurer.
