Menu for the Future

sustainable food Fall of 2009 course completed. Participants report having learned a lot.

The goals of the series are to help us explore food systems and their impacts on culture, our health and the health of the earth. We’ll look at some possible alternative agricultural and individual practices that promote personal and ecological well being.

The Northwest Earth Institute developed the program, and the UUA Ministry for the Earth is encouraging congregations to sponsor it. The Green Sanctuary Committee of the Unitarian Church of Barnstable is reaching out to the wider Cape Cod community to join the discussion on this important topic.

You can still own a book if you missed the class - we have a few more available for the cost of $20.00 - it's an excellent book of readings that accompanied the course, and which will make a useful reference to have in your personal library. This seems to be a very timely topic, as evidenced by movies like a “Delicate Balance” and “Food, Inc.” The convergence of concerns about industrial agriculture, global warming and our health set the stage for what can be a lively and interesting discussion.

If you have any questions, please contact us. See any member of the Green Sanctuary Committee during coffee hour after services or email us at green-inq @ barnstableuu.org. You can sign up at the table in Warren Hall, too.
