Welcoming Congregation
UCB is a Welcoming Congregation, fully open to the needs and concerns of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgender persons. The church was awarded the designation of Welcoming Congregation by the Unitarian Universalist Association in February, 2000. Through our Welcoming Congregation Committee, we work with and support a variety of local gay and lesbian organizations, participate in Gay Pride events, and support local AIDS ministries. The Welcoming Congregation Committee also periodically plans and conducts Sunday worship services to keep these important topics visible to the entire congregation.
The designation of 'Welcoming Congregation' represents the fact that the congregation, over a period of years, has educated itself about LGBT issues, has involved LGBT members and non-members in a variety of cultural competency workshops, and made an enduring commitment to continued support of the LGBT community within and outside our church.
