Get Involved
Just as at any non-profit organization, there are lots of jobs that need doing and roles that need to be filled. But even more satisfying is helping out at a faith community where you are working with folks who are also on a journey to discover, and then to become, their best selves. Join in!
Buildings & Operations Committee
The Buildings & Operations Committee is responsible for the proper maintenance of the physical plant as well as its systems and use. Members have in common an interest in knowing about and finding reasonable solutions to issues requiring attention on church property. No need for specific hands-on skills. However whenever possible we prefer to apply our skills versus paying for minor repairs.
Meeting Schedule: Monthly on first Thursday in late afternoon, in person.
Term Length: Although there isn’t a specific term to be a member of the committee, it is helpful to serve two or more years.

Caring Connections
Caring Connections extends the pastoral outreach of the Minister to members of the congregation to demonstrate our care for one another. Through cards, telephone calls and visits we support and enhance our connections within our caring community.

Coffee Hour/Hospitality
The Coffee Hour/Hospitality Committee sets up coffee hour prior to Service and then cleans up after coffee hour is over.
Meeting Schedule: No additional meetings outside of coffee hour.

Community Outreach Team
Partnering with local organizations, we solicit donations of food and materials from UCB members and friends for those in the wider Cape community needing assistance. Our outreach has extended to immigrant groups, foster families, victims of domestic abuse, people who are experiencing housing or food insecurity, even adopted animals.

Crafters and Creators
The Crafters and Creators handcraft items to sell at church fundraisers to support the work of the church. You can bring your own supplies or use ours. The crafters also welcome donations of newly crafted items.
Meeting Schedule: Fridays from 10am – noon, Sept. through May, in person.
Term Length: None.

Flower Committee
The Flower Committee organizes the flowers for the weekly service and the special holiday services. Anyone who is interested in providing the flowers for a given service may do so along with a dedication. Inquiries welcome.

Governing Board
According to UCB’s bylaws: The Governing Board shall be the executive body of the Church and shall have general charge of all property of the Church including the endowments and any funds held in trust, as well as any funds left to the Church not otherwise specifically designated; and perform such other duties as are generally required of Trustees in accordance with the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Meeting Schedule: Monthly – currently the 2nd Thursday of each month at 6:30pm, in person or on Zoom.
Term Length: Members serve staggered 3 year terms after being elected at an Annual Meeting.

Justice for All
The congregation’s social justice group, it is grounded in the recognition that many justice issues are connected. JfA provides opportunities for engagement, education and action.
Meeting Schedule: Monthly on 4th Wednesday from 12:30pm to 1pm
Term Length: No specific term. Participants are welcome to engage on specific justice issues as their energies permit.

Membership Committee
The Membership Committee welcomes new visitors to the church community. Members greet new folks on Sunday mornings, engage them at Coffee Hour, and introduce them to others in the community. The Membership Committee also sponsors opportunities for newer attendees and established members to mix socially; such as potluck dinners and Let’s Eat Together meals at members’ homes. The Committee is responsible as well for sponsoring the Path to Membership class offered at least once a year.

Music/Choir
The choir provides music for church services.
Practice Schedule: The choir meets to practice Wednesday nights at 6:45 and 9:45 on Sunday morning.

Parish Council
As described in our By-Laws, Parish Council partners with the Governing Board in the shared leadership of UCB. Parish Council, working with the Minister, supports and coordinates activities of the Church ministry through our programs, committees, groups, and teams and is the forum for developing new initiatives.
Meeting Schedule: Monthly on the second Thursday of the month. Meetings are held at 3 PM in Warren Hall with a Zoom option.

Safety Team
The mission of the team is to assist and educate the congregation in prevention and response to three types of emergencies: medical, fire, and hostile intruders. Safety monitors volunteer to greet and acknowledge all attending the service and then monitor the door and Warren Hall during the service.
Meeting Schedule: Monthly, in person & on Zoom. Less frequent in summer.
Term Length: Generally 3 years for the committee members but no term requested of Safety Monitors.

Scone Squad
UCB’s Scone Squad includes the bakers of Top of the Hill Scones and the Pop-Up sale helpers who set up for the sale early on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to noon. We bake 5 scone flavors: blueberry, cranberry, lemon, ginger, and chocolate chip. All bakers follow the same recipes so that all scones will taste as if the same baker made all of them. Consistency and texture is our motto. The Scone Squad is one of UCB’s biggest Fun Raisers AND Fundraisers. Everyone has fun doing this and we have raised over $100,000 for UCB since our inception in 2020.
Schedule: Scone season is from Memorial Day Weekend to the Holiday Fair in December.

Ushers
Ushers prepare the sanctuary for Sunday service, hand out programs, collect offerings, and close the sanctuary.
Schedule: 9:30 – 11:30 Sunday mornings.

Worship Committee
The primary responsibility of the Worship Committee is to invite guest clergy and lay speakers for Sundays when Rev. Harper is not preaching. We coordinate the service with our guest and then also participate as service leaders to provide the welcome and other traditional portions of the service.
Meeting Schedule: Approximately four times a year, in person.
Term Length: Although there isn’t a specific term to be a member of the committee, it is helpful to serve two or more years.
