About Unitarian Universalism

Unitarian Universalism is a “living tradition” that draws from many sources—from the wisdom of world religions and the guidance of reason to the sacred circle of earth-centered traditions. We don’t ask you to check your mind at the door or tell you what to think. Instead our faith tradition provides principles and values to guide your own spiritual journey.

UCB

The Unitarian Church of Barnstable (UCB) is a member congregation of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA), a voluntary association of autonomous, self-governing local churches and fellowships, which have freely chosen to pursue common goals together. UCB is a part of the New England Region and benefits from many resources provided by it. Sharing the core principles and values of our faith tradition is part of what unites us as UUs.

Unitarian Universalist Core Principles

  • The inherent worth and dignity of every person

  • Justice, equity & compassion in human relations
  • Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregation
  • A free and responsible search for truth and meaning
  • The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregation and in society at large
  • The goal of world community with peace, liberty and justice for all
  • Respect for the Interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part
  • Journeying toward wholeness by working to build a diverse multi-cultural Beloved Community by our actions that accountably dismantle racism and other oppressions in ourselves and our institutions
