Local Community Outreach

Building connections
by supporting organizations
whose work is to create justice.

St. Joseph’s House meals

St. Joseph's House meals

For many years, the Unitarian Church of Barnstable (UCB) has provided monthly meals to the unhoused people at the shelter in Hyannis. Once the Noah Shelter, now St. Joseph’s House, it has a capacity of 50 individuals and so, we prepare 50 meals and deliver them to the shelter. Consistently, Faithfully. With Love.

Cape Kid Meals

Cape Kid Meals

Packing meals and snacks for children with food insecurity to be able to eat during the weekend when they don’t have access to school lunches, CKM has a vision of no hungry children on Cape Cod. Rev. Dr. Harper drives for the program, delivering a carload of bags to a designated school each week.

Split Plate

The church’s Split Plate program supports justice efforts in our local community, raises awareness within the congregation, and gives members and friends an opportunity to provide direct support. (View Split Plate recipients list.)

UCB has designated the first Sunday of every month for a Split Plate Offering. This means that 50% of the non-pledge collection proceeds are donated to a local non-profit organization whose work aligns with UCB’s Mission and Principles. Parish Council chooses the recipients, often consulting with other groups including Justice for All.

As part of our Justice work, the Split Plate program has many years of giving history. The recipients and their contact information are published in the monthly Chalice newsletter, the Weekly announcements, the Order of Service announcements, and announced from the pulpit.
