UCB is a Welcoming Congregation

LGBTQ welcoming congregation

The Unitarian Church of Barnstable is fully open to the needs and concerns of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and gender non-conforming persons. The church was awarded the designation of Welcoming Congregation by the Unitarian Universalist Association in February 2000. Through our Welcoming Congregation Committee, we work with and support a variety of local LGBTQ+ organizations, participate in Pride events, and offer space for Transgender and LGBTQ Elder organizations. The Welcoming Congregation Committee also periodically plans and conducts Sunday worship services to keep these important topics visible to the entire congregation.

The designation of ‘Welcoming Congregation’ indicates that the congregation, over a period of years, has educated itself about LGBTQ+ issues, has involved LGBTQ+ members and non-members in a variety of cultural competency workshops, and made an enduring commitment to continued support of the LGBTQ+ community within and outside our church.

For more information, please visit the Unitarian Universalist Association’s (UUA) Welcoming and Affirming Congregations pages.
